NEAR Protocol’s open interest has dropped 9.5% over the past 24 hours, according to data from Coinalyze. This coincides with a 7.9% decline in the token’s price.
NEAR is currently trading near $4.50, with a market capitalization of approximately $5.86 billion and daily trading volume of around $618 million.

Open interest measures the total number or value of outstanding futures and perpetual contracts that have not been settled or closed. It helps gauge the amount of exposure remaining in the derivatives market, although it does not independently indicate whether traders are bullish or bearish.
When prices and open interest fall simultaneously, the combination generally suggests deleveraging. Traders may be voluntarily closing positions, or positions may be liquidated as prices move against them.
The decline in open interest therefore indicates that derivatives exposure is shrinking rather than being aggressively rebuilt.
NEAR has lost approximately 13.2% over the past seven days, reversing part of a powerful September rally that lifted the token from below $2 to above $5.
The price has also retreated from its recent high near $5.86, suggesting that selling pressure has strengthened in the short term.
Despite the correction, NEAR remains substantially above its summer lows. The key question is whether buyers can defend current support levels or whether continued deleveraging will lead to another leg down.
Next key price level to watch
The $4.50-$4.55 area is the first support zone to monitor. A sustained move below this range could expose NEAR to the Oct. 8 low near $4.29. A further decline would weaken the recovery structure established during the summer.
On the upside, NEAR needs to reclaim the $4.90-$5.00 range to signal that buyers are regaining control. A breakout above that zone could open the way toward $5.33-$5.45.
Near Protocol continues to develop its cross-chain and AI-related infrastructure, but those longer-term themes have not prevented the token from correcting alongside the broader market.
For now, the combination of falling prices and declining open interest suggests that traders are reducing risk.
Whether NEAR stabilizes around $4.50 or extends its losses will depend on broader market conditions, derivatives activity and the token’s ability to recover key technical levels.
