Solana’s Alpenglow Upgrade Targets 150ms Finality Ahead of October 21 Launch

Solana is scheduled to activate Alpenglow on October 21, 2026, targeting transaction finality of approximately 150 milliseconds. According to the Solana Foundation, the consensus upgrade will help reduce the current finality benchmark of the network, which is 12.8 seconds.

This is about 85 times faster in finality, according to the published figures. Finality is when a transaction is irreversible and users can be more certain that money has been settled.

Alpenglow is a replacement of TowerBFT, which is the system that system validators would use to reach consensus on transactions and complete blocks. Its Votor protocol also allows validators to directly exchange votes and pool them into certificates. This enables blocks to achieve finality one or two rounds of voting.

To users, the change would reduce the delays in the confirmation of payment and retain familiar wallet interactions. According to the Foundation, users will be able to keep signing and sending transactions via their current wallets and applications.

A different metric compared with time between new blocks is the 150-millisecond target, which is the finality of transactions. Real performance is yet to be proved on mainnet, where the upgrade is yet to be activated.

A four-hour close above $105 would provide the recovery situation with strength and focus on $110. A recovery of $110 would then reveal $115, which is close to a previous price response zone as per detailed Solana price analysis.

On the negative side, the most evident support level indicated on the provided chart is still at $100. The four-hour close below that may reveal the exposure to $97 and then the round number of 95.

These downside targets will be based on a verified support breach, and possession of $100 would keep the chance of a new recovery in place.
