Is any console worth that amount of money? I think it’s a question worth asking. As it stands, the next generation is utterly mired in uncertainty — or even outright negativity, depending on your point of view regarding Sony’s decision to kill physical discs, etc.
If anything, this generation has shown us that our favourite hobby is in danger of being prohibitively expensive. The PS5’s price tag has increased over time thanks to the same component crisis that threatens its successor.
Sony has also been pushing expensive accessories and peripherals more than ever before, in a bid to squeeze the most money possible out of individual sales. The same goes for software.
I think it’s genuinely difficult to imagine an even more expensive console generation than this one — but all the evidence says that’s exactly what we’ll be getting when the PS6 drops. So many people are going to be priced out at launch and probably well beyond it.
Would you pay $1,000 for a PS6, then? Vote in our polls, and then apologise to your wallet in the comments section below.
