Thunderpick World Championship: FURIA retain title

FURIA’s first trophy of 2026 arrived with a familiar finish: another Thunderpick World Championship crown. The Brazilian side beat BetBoom Team in Sunday’s grand final in Attard, Malta, defending the title they won last year and making it back-to-back championships, according to the result reported by The Lufkin News.

That turns a long wait for silverware into a title defence, with BetBoom pushing the final all the way to a deciding map. Supplementary match reports from Strafe and Dust2.us give the series score as 3-2 to FURIA in a best-of-five. The win is the headline; the route there was anything but a quiet stroll through the bracket.

Five maps, and no easy way out

Both reports describe a final that swung back and forth. FURIA took Dust2, but BetBoom answered by winning Ancient and Nuke to move ahead 2-1. FURIA then stayed alive with a narrow Mirage victory before closing out the championship on Cache.

The map scores reported by Strafe and Dust2.us underline how differently the rounds played out. FURIA’s opener and decider were more comfortable; in between, BetBoom dragged the series into a proper test of nerve.

Map Score Winner
Dust2 13-6 FURIA
Ancient 16-19 BetBoom Team
Nuke 9-13 BetBoom Team
Mirage 13-11 FURIA
Cache 13-6 FURIA

Strafe also reports that FURIA reached the final after a 2-0 semifinal win over Aurora. That put them in position to meet BetBoom again after beating the same opponent earlier in the event, turning the final into a rematch rather than a fresh matchup.

A defence that gives the season a landmark

The result adds a second straight Thunderpick title to FURIA’s record and gives the team its first tournament trophy of the year. According to Strafe, the 2026 championship ran in Malta from October 14 to 18, featured eight teams and carried a $1 million prize pool. Those event details add scale to the win without changing its simplest significance: FURIA returned to the final and kept the trophy.

The Thunderpick World Championship is a prominent stop on the CS2 calendar, and its format and prize pool give the title defence real weight. FURIA’s victory also follows a difficult opening stretch to 2026, making the trophy a concrete turning point rather than a result that needs dressing up as a prediction about what comes next.

With the championship secured on Sunday, FURIA’s next test comes quickly: Dust2.us reports that the team is due to begin PGL Masters Bucharest on October 24. The Thunderpick repeat supplies the first trophy of the campaign; the next event will show how fast the champions can carry that result forward.
