Twelve years ago today, the Brad Pitt film Fury, which has been called a timeless war movie, was released and became a hit. Seemingly never forgotten, it is now one of the top streaming movies in the United States on the the anniversary of its original release. As impressive as that return to the charts was, the really incredible thing is that Fury has spent more than a month in Apple TV’s Top 10 in the past.
‘Fury’ Was Released 12 Years Ago Today
After premieres were held in Washington D.C. and Jamaica two days earlier, Fury was widely released in the United States, Canada, and the Bahamas on October 17, 2014. Written and directed by David Ayer, the film brought together an all-star cast that included Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, and Jason Isaacs. According to IMDb, the World War II movie became a hit that brought in more than $211.8 million off an estimated $68 million budget.
‘Fury’ Has Spent More Than a Month Charting on Apple TV and Surged Into the Top 10
On the 12th anniversary of Fury being released, the movie has suddenly surged on streaming, yet again proving how much interest it continues to warrant. On FlixPatrol’s ranking of the most-viewed movies in the United States on Apple TV, Fury is currently listed at No. 6. Yesterday, on October 16, it was slightly higher on the list, at No. 5. Additionally, the website notes that since it began tracking Apple TV’s top 10 movies, the film has made the ranking for a total of 40 non-consecutive days.
According to a July 2026 MacDailyNews article, Apple TV has earned 13% of the United States’ Subscription Video on Demand market. That would translate to tens of millions of users. That makes it very impressive that Fury has been among the Top 10 movies on the service for more than a month.
Who Listed ‘Fury’ As a ‘Timeless War Movie’?
In June 2023, Military Times first published its choices for the “43 most timeless war movies ever made.” Alongside all-time classics like Saving Private Ryan, Casablanca, Das Boot, Apocalypse Now, Platoon, and Schindler’s List, the outlet included Fury in the unranked list.
It makes perfect sense that Fury would be included in a list like that, considering the film’s strengths truly are timeless. For example, the way that much of the movie focuses on the tight, claustrophobic setting inside a tank will never cease to be incredibly impactful. Additionally, its stellar performances, how effectively it builds dread in the viewer, and the film’s moral complexity have all aged exceptionally well.
