The Sanderson sisters are climbing streaming charts again, with a little help from a familiar Ted Lasso face. Hocus Pocus 2, the 2022 sequel featuring Hannah Waddingham, has reached No. 3 on Disney+ and Hulu movie rankings.
According to CBR’s October 14 report, the comedy rose two places on Disney+’s film chart, citing FlixPatrol. Meanwhile, Streamscope’s Hulu tracking lists it at third on October 19, though those snapshots cover different dates.
Who does Hannah Waddingham play in Hocus Pocus 2?
Before the modern-day trouble begins, Waddingham appears as the Witch Mother in a flashback to the Sanderson sisters’ childhood. Rather than serve as their enemy, she gives young Winifred the spellbook that shapes their future.
Beyond that role, Waddingham enjoyed meeting the stars behind the returning witches. Speaking to Today, she recalled sitting down with Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
“I honestly felt like I won a competition because they were all sitting in their witchy outfits,” she said. Afterward, that lunch became a memorable part of joining the Halloween sequel.
What brings the Sanderson sisters back to Salem?
This time, three teenage girls accidentally revive the witches by lighting the Black Flame Candle. However, stopping them before dawn proves harder than simply realizing that something has gone wrong.
Alongside Midler, Najimy, and Parker, Doug Jones returns as zombie Billy Butcherson. Additionally, the cast includes Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Lilia Buckingham, Sam Richardson, and Tony Hale.
Originally, Disney+ released director Anne Fletcher’s sequel on September 30, 2022, nearly three decades after the 1993 film. Instead of opening in cinemas, the follow-up went straight to streaming.
Importantly, these chart positions show popularity on particular days, not published totals of viewing hours. Therefore, neither ranking proves the sequel is either service’s third-biggest movie ever.
Today, viewers can find the sequel on Hulu. Disney+ also carries the film.
