‘Man v. Food’ Star Adam Richman Lost 60 Pounds After Retiring From Extreme Eating and Cutting 2 Foods

Adam Richman built a TV career on eating more than anyone should. Then he stopped, and the weight came off.

The “Man v. Food” host lost 60 pounds after he walked away from extreme eating, and he did it largely by cutting back on two foods: white flour and dairy.

4 Seasons of Eating Challenges

“Man v. Food” premiered on the Travel Channel on Dec. 3, 2008. Richman hosted four seasons, traveling from city to city to take on local restaurants’ eating challenges. His last episodes aired on April 11, 2012, from Charlotte and Jackson, according to the show’s episode history.

By the fourth season, renamed “Man v. Food Nation,” he wasn’t eating the challenges himself anymore. He coached other people through them.

The 2 Foods He Cut

By September 2013, Richman had dropped 60 pounds. He told People he cut back on white flour and dairy and worked out more, TV Guide reported.

The food didn’t stop showing up around him. “The crew got a bunch of pizzas, and it was all I could smell,” he told the magazine, per The Christian Post. “It sucked. But I had a Greek yogurt with raw almonds, water and an iced coffee, and I was satisfied.”

He wasn’t turning his back on the show that made him famous. “Man v. Food was the biggest career-defining opportunity,” he said. “I went from anonymity to someone of note with access to amazing eateries.”

What Got Him Started

Richman later traced the change to something he saw on screen. “It actually began because I hated the way I looked in the first episode of ‘Fandemonium,’” he told Jewish News in 2014, referring to his Food Network UK series.

Not Every Fan Was Happy

Some viewers took it personally. “When I lost weight, people felt betrayed that I had lost weight,” Richman told The Jewish Chronicle in 2015.

Where He Is Now

Richman never left food TV. He went on to his own Travel Channel series, “Man Finds Food,” and became a leading contributor on History’s “The Food That Built America,” which began airing in 2019. In March 2024, “Adam Richman Eats Britain” premiered on Discovery+ in the U.K.

His newest series, “Adam Richman Eats Italy,” premiered on Feb. 9, 2026, with episodes set in Florence and Milan, per TV Buzz Daily’s listings.

“Man v. Food” carried on without him. The show returned in 2017 with Casey Webb as host.
