Air Jordan 15 ‘Stealth’: Prices, History and Where to Buy

If you were to rank every colorway released in the Air Jordan 15 silhouette, and you don’t put the Stealth near the top of your list, we probably can’t discuss sneakers. Let me back up, the AJ15 is far from my favorite silhouette, so perhaps my perspective is different from those who actually love the way this odd shoe is made. I don’t care for it, but even with my general distaste for the design, I cannot deny the way it works with this colorway and concept. Let’s talk sneakers.

Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Jordan 15, which debuted in 1999. He drew inspiration from the X-15, an experimental aircraft that Nike calls the world’s fastest manned aircraft to date.

The AJ15 used a woven Kevlar upper and a protruding tongue meant to mirror Jordan’s own when he took flight in the paint. Jordan was retired by then and reportedly wore the shoe with business suits rather than on court.

This design is one of the most historically divisive sneakers in the Jordan Brand catalog. There are many who feel like I do and some who love it. What makes the Stealth the best of the silhouette is that no matter which side of the fence you sit, there’s probably at least some respect given to this one.

The Stealth was part of the original 1999 run and returned as a retro on Jan. 7, 2017, for $190. It comes in Black/Varsity Red-Anthracite under style code 881429-001.
