Chiefs TE Travis Kelce Can Make NFL History Against Seahawks on Sunday Night

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of just three unbeaten teams remaining in the NFL, entering Sunday night’s road contest against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks at 5-0.

Kansas City is coming off a 22-6 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers last week, when veteran tight end Travis Kelce hauled in four receptions for 53 yards. Kelce is now in his 14th NFL season.

Through five games, Kelce has recorded 20 receptions for 299 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 59.8 yards per game and 15 yards per reception.

He’ll enter Sunday night’s game on the cusp of making NFL history.

Kelce needs just 35 receiving yards against the Seahawks to surpass Tony Gonzalez for the most career receiving yards by a tight end in NFL history, including the postseason.

Gonzalez finished his career with 15,413 receiving yards, while Kelce enters the game with 15,379. Kelce also needs just three receptions to pass Cris Carter and Marvin Harrison and move into the top three on the all-time receptions list.

Why Kelce Chose to Return for His 14th NFL Season With Chiefs

Before the 2026 season, Kelce revealed that returning was a relatively easy decision, even though he had briefly contemplated retirement. After the Chiefs missed the playoffs last season, Kelce didn’t want his career to end that way.

“It was a pretty easy decision to come back,” Kelce said. “I wanted to give my chance to actually feel the emotion, take everything, try not to take a drastic decision.”

“I really didn’t want it to end like that and I still feel like I’ve got a lot of ball left in me,” he added. “I enjoy Sundays so damn much, man.”
