A new Western starring David Morse is quietly making its way up Prime Video’s movie rankings. Broken Land is currently the No. 3 Western movie on Prime Video, according to the streaming service’s own listing. The drama is also available to rent or buy on the platform.
The film stars Morse as Carson Tidwell, an isolated rancher living in rural Texas. His life takes a dramatic turn when he accidentally shoots a pregnant migrant woman crossing his property.
‘Broken Land’ is a Streaming Hit
Rather than turn her over, Carson decides to protect her and her unborn child. That becomes considerably more complicated because his estranged son, Harley, is a Border Patrol agent investigating the situation. Bill Heck plays Harley, while Jaklyn Bejarano stars as Irena.
Directed by J.T. Walker, Broken Land is less of a traditional shoot-’em-up Western and more of a character-driven drama built around an increasingly difficult moral decision.
The movie was released digitally in June 2026, although it is listed as a 2025 film on several databases. It runs about 1 hour and 39 minutes and is rated PG-13.
It has also received a strong response from critics. Broken Land currently holds a 93% Tomatometer score from 14 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with the site’s critics highlighting Morse’s performance and the movie’s approach to its complicated subject matter.
That gives the movie an interesting position on Prime Video right now: It’s not a huge studio Western with a massive cast, but a relatively low-key drama that has found an audience alongside much more established titles in the genre.
And with Broken Land currently sitting at No. 3 among Prime Video’s Western movies, it may be worth a look for viewers looking for something a little different from the usual gunslinger story.
