‘Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’ Director Confirms Another Fan-Favorite Feature Will Return

Final Fantasy Resonance is out later this week, and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is on the horizon. As the marketing blitz continues, Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has continued giving interviews, and he finally clarified and answered one of the biggest questions on fans’ minds about the upcoming game.

In an interview with Hardcore Gamer, Hamaguchi has confirmed that the Hard Mode from Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available in Revelation. Additionally, he announced that the mode will be available at the beginning of the game and will not require a one-time unlock by completing the game once, as in the previous two games.

There are, however, going to be some changes from the way the mode worked in the previous two games.

“Hard Mode does indeed exist in Revelation; however, it won’t function in the exact same way as it did in Remake and Rebirth. In Revelation, we’ve reimagined the high-difficulty experience to align with the new game design,” said Hamaguchi.

“Hard Mode is selectable from the very start of this game. Therefore, players who want to tackle challenging battles and high-difficulty gameplay right from the beginning can enjoy that experience from their very first playthrough,” said Hamaguchi.

Hamaguchi also confirmed that the Hard Mode will not ban items this time. He also stated that these decisions regarding Hard Mode were made because Revelation was designed to have many end-game and post-game challenging battles.

He also stated that, with the addition of the FIT system, the combat system has expanded significantly, so just banning items would not create the difficulty that hardcore fans desire.

Revelation will also offer Dynamic Difficulty, which allows players to enjoy challenges with powered-up characters without worrying about becoming too powerful and making the game too easy; the game scales and adapts with the player.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation releases on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
