Fleetwood Mac fans have a new reason to celebrate as the band’s long-awaited documentary gets one step closer to the screen.
Two years after its initial announcement, the film, directed by Frank Marshall, has finally gotten a title and release, with a press release confirming the arrival of Fleetwood Mac: The Chain on Friday, Jan. 29, 2027 on Apple TV.
Fleetwood Mac: The Chain is the first fully authorized documentary about the band, fittingly dropping just days before the milestone 50th anniversary of their Grammy Award-winning album Rumours. The film’s title also holds special significance as “The Chain” remains the only song on the album credited to all five band members: Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie, and the late Christine McVie.
“The song perfectly captures the complicated yet enduring bond at the heart of Fleetwood Mac, and its iconic lyrics became a powerful motif for the respect and connection that persisted through the tumultuous odyssey of the band’s rise to superstardom,” the press release stated.

Fleetwood Mac: The Chain will chronicle the band’s extensive history, dating back to their unexpected meeting in 1974 and up to the present. Viewers will be taken through the highs and the lows of the rock band in personal, professional, and musical lenses.
As for how Apple Original Films will tell their story, fans can expect to see a mix of never-before-seen footage and exclusive new interviews from the core members. “I am fascinated by how this incredible story of enormous musical achievement came about,” Marshall, also the director behind Disney+’s The Beach Boys, said in 2024. “Fleetwood Mac somehow managed to merge their often chaotic and almost operatic personal lives into their own tale in real time, which then became legend. This will be a film about the music and the people who created it.”
Rumours, which went multi-platinum in a number of countries, will reach its 50th anniversary on Feb. 4, 2027, just six days after Fleetwood Mac: The Chain drops on Apple TV.
