Jack Campbell Injury Update: Detroit Lions Linebacker Remains in Hospital After Terrifying Injury

The Detroit Lions are waiting for more information on linebacker Jack Campbell after a frightening injury during Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Campbell was taken from Ford Field to a local hospital after suffering a neck injury in the fourth quarter of Detroit’s 19-15 victory. The Lions later announced that he would remain hospitalized overnight for continued evaluation and monitoring.

“Jack Campbell is resting and will remain in a local hospital tonight, for continued evaluation and monitoring,” the team said in a statement. “The team will provide further updates as we have them.”

There was no additional diagnosis provided by the Lions.

What Happened to Jack Campbell?

Campbell was injured early in the fourth quarter while making a tackle on Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson.

The 26-year-old linebacker went down and remained on the field as medical personnel attended to him. He was eventually placed on a backboard and carefully taken from the field on a cart. Players from both teams gathered around Campbell during the lengthy stoppage.

The scene was understandably difficult for both teams to watch, with several players visibly shaken. Campbell was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for a neck injury, and the Lions later confirmed he would remain there overnight.

According to the Associated Press, Campbell was alert and breathing when he was taken to the hospital.

Dan Campbell Asked the Lions to Pray for Jack

The injury was clearly weighing on the Lions after the game, even as the team celebrated an important win. Head coach Dan Campbell told the team in the locker room that he did not have any additional information about Jack’s condition.

“I do not have anymore information on Jack. We don’t know anything else at this point,” Dan Campbell said.

He then asked his players to take a knee.

“So here’s what I wanna do, man. We’re gonna take a knee. Now I wanna pray for Jack. Okay? And let’s keep him in our thoughts and prayers, man. That’s a hell of a win.”

Quarterback Jared Goff also acknowledged the difficult situation while speaking to his teammates in the locker room.

“I love you boys, stick together,” Goff said. “I know that sh*t is tough with Jack. Stick together, lean on each other, alright?”

It was a striking moment following a win that kept Detroit moving forward as they became the first of the season to defeat the Minnesota Vikings, but the condition of one of the team’s key defensive players was rightfully the bigger concern inside the locker room.

Campbell entered Sunday’s game as an important part of Detroit’s defense. Bleacher Report noted that he led the team in tackles entering the matchup and was coming off a 2025 season in which he earned first-team All-Pro honors after recording 176 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles.

The Lions also rewarded Campbell with a four-year, $81 million contract extension during the offseason.

This story will be updated as the Detroit Lions provide additional information on Campbell’s condition.
