Jackie Chan’s New Action Thriller Is a Hit With Audiences Ahead of Its U.S. Streaming Release

Jackie Chan is back in full action-hero mode, and his latest movie has already earned an impressive audience score ahead of its U.S. streaming release.

The Shadow’s Edge is set to arrive on video-on-demand in the U.S. on Nov. 3, giving fans a chance to watch Chan’s latest action thriller at home. The movie has also earned an 82% Tomatometer score from critics and a remarkable 97% Popcornmeter score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Jackie Chan Returns to His Action Roots

In The Shadow’s Edge, Chan plays Wong Tak-chung, a retired surveillance expert who is brought back into action after a crew of professional criminals manages to disappear with billions.

The Macau police are struggling to catch the group, forcing them to turn to Wong. He eventually helps rebuild an elite surveillance unit tasked with tracking down the mysterious criminal known as the Wolf King.

The movie combines Chan’s martial arts background with a more modern technological thriller. The result is a story involving surveillance, cybercrime and a criminal operation that appears to stay several steps ahead of law enforcement.

And, naturally, there are plenty of opportunities for Chan to do what audiences have loved watching him do for decades.

Critics Are Giving ‘The Shadow’s Edge’ a Strong Score

The Shadow’s Edge currently has an 82% Tomatometer score based on 11 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Its audience score is even stronger at 97%, based on more than 100 verified ratings.

Several critics have specifically praised the movie’s action sequences.

The Guardian’s Leslie Felperin gave the film two out of five stars but still highlighted Chan’s fight scenes, noting that the movie rarely goes more than a few minutes without a fight or shootout. Other critics have been much more enthusiastic, with Starburst giving the movie five stars and calling it one of the year’s best action films.

The positive response isn’t limited to the critics, either.

Rotten Tomatoes’ audience reviews include viewers calling it a comeback for Chan and praising the combination of Chan, Tony Leung Ka-fai, and the movie’s younger martial arts performers.
