Lots of ink has been spilled about the mineral composition of various steels, the intricacies of different locking mechanisms, and the virtues of straight versus serrated blades. Of course, most people just want a pocket knife that’s sharp enough to do what they need it to do, and they’d like to not pay a fortune for it. Right now, Amazon has the perfect knife for this quieter majority, a very sharp pocket knife at a very low price.
The Jin Pocket Knife is on sale for $10 at Amazon, 50% off its normal $20 price tag. This deal is good on the black colorway only, but color is somewhat irrelevant if you’re using this knife as a completely functional object, which is truly what it is.
Jin Pocket Knife, $10 (was $20) at Amazon

This knife arrives in pieces, so it does require assembly. That may or may not be appealing to you, but once it’s up and running you get a lot for your $10. There’s a 4.5-inch textured handle made of G10, a very durable, high-pressure fiberglass laminate composite. Ceramic bearings and detent ball make for smooth opening and closing of the 3.5-inch straight-edge blade, which itself is made of D2 steel, a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel often used in sharp objects, from knives to industrial saw blades. One side of the handle has a very good, deep clip that ensures this knife will stay snugly in a pocket until needed to slice open a cardboard box, sharpen a pencil, or do any of the millions of other things a sharp pocket knife can do.
The good news for the assembly-averse is that one shopper wrote that this is a “very easy kit to put together.” They added that there’s “just enough tension, so when you open the blade it locks in perfectly.” The blade is “sharp and durable,” and this knife is “definitely worth the money” not least of all because “the G10 handle feels good in the hand, and overall the materials used in this knife kit are high quality down to the screws and pocket clip.”
Another satisfied customer was also “extremely pleased with how easy the knife was to assemble.” Once built, “it was easy to operate and the blade was perfectly centered” with a blade that “opens smoothly” and “good ergonomics.”
