Tambourine For A Mew? This Collector Traded Her Rare $400 Pokémon Card With Joe Jonas During His Concert

If there’s one hobby that Joe Jonas is obsessed with, it’s Pokémon card collecting. Seems like the childlike wonderment that comes with acquiring a new card is still imbued within every fiber of Jonas’s being.

This was on full display when, during a live concert, a fan held up a sign that read “Trade Vintage Mew for Tambo?”

Joe saw the endearing sign, threw her his tambourine, and got himself a Mew card.

The fan addressed the swap and said that she does not regret it in the slightest while responding to comments online. “Not the comments thinking I’d regret trading my Mew for Joe’s Tambo. I’d do it again in a heartbeat,” she said.

The Mew in question is the iconic 1999 Japanese Promo Southern Islands Mew, which was graded a near-mint PSA 7.

According to ‘Pokett App’, this card is valued at around $266. One sold for $405 on October 12, so the aforementioned $266 price is more of a median value.

It’s unclear whether Joe will put this up for sale. Given that he has a net worth of $50 million, he loves Pokémon, and there is sentimental value attached to the fact that a fan gave this to him, it’s highly unlikely he would do this.

Joe Jonas Has Proven Himself To Be A Pokémon Fan Many Times Over

Another reason that could be added to the long list of reasons why he probably wouldn’t ever sell this card is that Mew is one of his favorite Pokémon. He even has a tiny Bubble Mew tattoo on his arm.

He even pulled Bubble Mew, i.e., the Mew ex 232/091 Special Illustration Rare, while opening a sealed Scarlet & Violet—Paldean Fates Booster Bundle. This was during his Pokémon-themed birthday celebration.

Many believe that Jonas’s fascination with Pokémon began recently due to the meteoric rise of the collectibles space. One online user even called him a ‘larper’, which is a term used for someone feigning excitement over something just because everyone else is into it.

He responded with old binders from his childhood that featured Pokémon cards released over two decades ago, proving this has been his thing for a while now, to say the least.

Along with all of these acts of love for the space, he’s also spoken about it ad nauseam.

“Since I was a little kid, I was going to my local card shop and collecting cards and exchanging with friends. I’ve always been a fan,” said Jonas to PEOPLE.

He would circle back around to Mew, saying, “I got a handful of cards. I’m a big Mew fan, so I have a Mew bubble card that was gifted to me, and that’s the crown jewel right now.”

It’s safe to say that any Mew card that exists would be safe in Joe Jonas’ hands. Oh, and he’s most certainly not a Pokémon ‘larper’.
