Lamar Jackson Injury Update: Why Did the Ravens’ Quarterback Leave Against Buffalo?

Baltimore Ravens superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson returned Sunday against the Buffalo Bills after a three-week absence due to an ankle injury. That return was cut short almost immediately when the MVP left the game and was ruled out with a thumb injury in the first quarter.

There are no further updates on Jackson’s health at this time, but it’s another untimely injury for him in recent seasons. He missed four games last season with a hamstring issue and a back bruise. He missed five games in 2021 with an ankle injury and five games in 2022 with a knee injury.

The Ravens’ backup quarterback, Tyler Huntley, went down with a leg injury shortly after Jackson, which means the team is now using a third-string quarterback, Joe Fagnano. Buffalo is leading 16-7 in the third quarter at the time of this writing. The Bills are looking to go 6-1 on the season, while the Ravens will drop to 4-4 and lose a third straight game if this result holds.

Jackson’s season is starting to look like a lost cause. He has six touchdowns and only one interception so far. When he’s on the field, he’s still one of the best players in the league. Injuries are becoming a tragic part of his career, though. The Ravens are looking to improve this season with new head coach Jesse Minter, but without Jackson under center, it’s going to be difficult for the team to achieve any of the goals they had entering the year.

Baltimore has never gone to the Super Bowl with Jackson at quarterback. They won the title against the Niners in the 2012-2013 season with Joe Flacco playing quarterback.

The team went 8-9 last season and missed the playoffs under John Harbaugh, who is now coaching the New York Giants. Here’s hoping for better health for Jackson as the year goes on.
