Michael Douglas Could Not Quit This Film, He Says

Marvel isn’t going to let Hank Pym die just yet.

Michael Douglas, 82, recently went on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to talk about his new memoir One Helluva Ride. Talking more about roles in the actor’s career, host Josh Horowitz asked if the rumors that the Wall Street actor had asked to have Hank Pym killed off were true.

Douglas explained, “I would have been killed off after the second one, but they wouldn’t let me.”

His first appearance as Hank Pym was in the 2015 film Ant-Man, alongside Evangeline Lilly as his daughter Hope and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang. He reprised his role in both the 2018 sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Endgame in 2019, and finally in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

“It’s hard acting, man,” the Oscar Award-winning actor said. “It’s coming at you here, this and that, you know… We did ‘Ant-Man’ and Paul Rudd was a wonderful actor — a lovely group — but then you can’t get out of it.”

In 2024, Douglas told The View that he had asked Marvel to kill him off in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: “I said I’d like to have a serious [death], with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is. I want to use all those effects.”

In the rest of the podcast, the Basic Instinct actor talked in more depth about his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, and revelations he didn’t include in the book. Douglas’ memoir goes beyond his career, offering an in-depth account of his life and relationships with his friends, family, partners, co-stars, and himself throughout his life.

One Helluva Ride was released earlier this month and is available wherever books are sold.
