It has been more than nine years since the world last got to see Johnny Depp bring one of his most famous characters, Captain Jack Sparrow, to life on the big screen. Now, an official announcement has revealed that a new actor will take on the iconic role in a major production.
Who Has Officially Been Cast as Captain Jack Sparrow?
On October 21, 2026, Variety reported that George Maguire has officially been cast as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure.” The production is being staged by Secret Cinema and TodayTix at a riverside venue on London’s Greenwich Peninsula. The show begins previews on February 16, 2027, ahead of its official opening on March 10.
George Maguire is an English actor and musician who won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor for his 2015 performance in Sunny Afternoon. After that, he performed as Buck Barrow in two stagings of Bonnie & Clyde in 2022 and 2023. Onscreen, Maguire has co-starred with Olivia Colman in Wicker, which is set for a 2026 release, and he has garnered credits in EastEnders and Prime Suspect.
Variety’s report noted that Laurence Olivier Award winner Matt Costain will direct “Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure.” The outlet also listed several other confirmed castings:
- Phil Daniels as Captain Barbossa
- Lily Blunsom as Elizabeth Swann
- Harrison Wilde as Will Turner
- Gleanne Purcell-Brown as Anamaria
Unlike typical stage shows, this production is set to be fully immersive. Clips from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl will be played onscreen alongside large set pieces, stunts, and a live band. During the two-hour 15-minute show, audience members will be allowed to walk through the set and meet the characters. Variety’s report quoted Merritt Baer, the president and co-founder of TodayTix Group, discussing the ambitious stage show.
“We’ve taken everything Secret Cinema does best and pushed it further than ever before, creating a new kind of theatrical experience where the story doesn’t just happen in front of you – it happens all around you. This is exactly the kind of show we’ve been building towards and opening it in our new home at Greenwich Peninsula makes it even more exciting.”
