Halloween is this Saturday, which means all over the United States, there will be plenty of children and families dressed up and celebrating the occasion.
Halloween is a major deal everywhere, from big cities to small towns. In the former category, personal finance company WalletHub went through the 100 largest American cities and ranked them across 20 metrics to determine which one is the best location for Halloween.
“Halloween holds a big place in American popular culture, and we collectively spend billions of dollars celebrating every year,” said WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo. “At the same time, it’s also a holiday that comes with a certain amount of risk, given that children visit strangers’ houses in the dark. The best cities for Halloween are those that provide the safest conditions for celebrating, along with an abundance of activities, Halloween-related stores and good weather.”

The Big Apple is the place to be on Oct. 31
New York City ranks second in trick-or-treater friendliness, behind only its suburb, Jersey City, and fourth in the “Halloween fun” category. A solid showing (29th) in Halloween weather all adds up to the No. 1 spot on WalletHub’s list.
“New York City is the best place to be on Halloween, boasting the second-most Halloween costume shops and the most candy stores per capita,” said WalletHub’s Adam McCann. “Its residents also search Google for “Halloween parties” and related terms more than people in any other city.
“On top of that, New York has the highest population density in the country, and the third-highest walkability score. That means it’s easy to go trick-or-treating and get a lot of candy.”
