A Lifetime thriller has wasted no time finding a new audience on Netflix.
Don’t Trust the Couple Upstairs arrived on Netflix on Oct. 29, and just two days later, the 2026 movie had climbed to the top of Netflix’s U.S. movie rankings. The thriller was originally released as a Lifetime movie earlier this year before making its way to the streaming service.
The movie stars Alex Mitchell as Maria, a newlywed who lives with her husband, Joe, played by Rob LaColla Jr. The couple decides to rent out part of their home to Vicki and Clay, a seemingly friendly couple who quickly become much more complicated than they first appear.
According to Lifetime’s synopsis, everything begins to unravel when Vicki is killed. Maria then starts uncovering secrets that lead her to question whether she really knows the man she married.
Netflix describes the movie as a mystery thriller and drama, with the story centered on the newlyweds’ increasingly dangerous living situation. The cast also includes Tess Cline, Brenna Skalski, Thomas King, Denise Culbreth and Anna Talakkottur.
The Movie Was Originally a Lifetime Release
For viewers who didn’t catch Don’t Trust the Couple Upstairs when it premiered on Lifetime, Netflix has given the movie a second life.
The film originally debuted on Lifetime on April 3, 2026. Rotten Tomatoes lists it as a Lifetime production and gives it a 2026 release date, while Lifetime lists the movie at roughly 90 minutes.
The setup gives Don’t Trust the Couple Upstairs plenty of familiar Lifetime-thriller ingredients: a seemingly perfect marriage, mysterious houseguests, a suspicious death and secrets that completely change the situation.
And the title itself gives away the basic warning. The real mystery is figuring out why Maria shouldn’t trust the couple upstairs, and whether the bigger threat is actually much closer to home.
As of Oct. 31, Don’t Trust the Couple Upstairs was sitting at the top of Netflix’s U.S. movie rankings, according to FlixPatrol’s tracking of the Netflix Top 10.
