The NFC East entered the NFL record books under humiliating circumstances during Week 6, following the Washington Commanders’ Monday night defeat against the San Francisco 49ers.
Jayden Daniels and the Commanders fell 23-17 to the NFC-leading 49ers at Levi’s Stadium on Monday night, falling to 1-4-1 on the season. With the loss, the Commanders and their NFC East foes made unwanted history.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFC East became the first division in NFL history to go two straight weeks without recording a victory. Making this even more remarkable? The Commanders and New York Giants played each other in Week 5, but that game ended in a 27-27 tie.
In Week 5, the Dallas Cowboys were stunned 24-16 at home by the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Philadelphia Eagles fell 19-17 to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London thanks to Cam Little’s last-second 57-yard field goal.
On Sunday, the Cowboys fell 23-13 to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Without quarterback Jalen Hurts, the Eagles offense struggled in a 25-14 home loss to the visiting Carolina Panthers. The NFC East-leading Giants were upset 34-27 by the New Orleans Saints at MetLife Stadium.

Despite not winning in consecutive weeks, the Giants still lead the NFC East with a 3-2-1 record. With starting quarterback Jaxson Dart and superstar pass rusher Brian Burns out for the year, however, it’s easy to question how much longer John Harbaugh’s squad can hold onto first place.
The 2-4 Eagles are without Hurts (blood clots in his lungs) for the rest of the season. The 1-4-1 Commanders are reeling and just lost star wide receiver Terry McLaurin for the year with a torn patellar tendon.
There’s a case to be made that the Cowboys are the team to beat in the division, given their health and talent level. Then again, it’s hard to have faith in a team whose defense is allowing 26.5 points per game.
