Beloved actor Patrick Stewart died this week following his battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia, according to his official social media account.
“He has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, laughter and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to us all,” publicist Bush Novak wrote in a statement. “We will forever cherish the peaceful ease and reflection on his face, an enduring reminder of his invincible grace.”
Stewart was 86 years old.
Patrick Stewart Was Married to Singer-Songwriter Sunny Ozell
The Star Trek actor met his musician wife Sunny Ozell in 2008 at a restaurant in New York City, where Ozell was working as a waitress at the time. After several years of dating, the couple got married on Sept. 7, 2013 – and the ceremony was delivered by fellow X-Men actor Ian McKellen.
“[When we first met] she was working as a waitress in a restaurant in Brooklyn,” he recalled to People in 2022. “This lovely woman came over and said, ‘Gentleman, on the house, what would you like for desserts?’ We got talking and she told me how much she’d wanted to see Macbeth, but it had been sold out. The Brooklyn run, which was only three or four weeks, sold out before we opened.”
Ozell is a successful singer and songwriter who has released two studio albums. Her debut album, Take It with Me, was released in 2015, while her second album, titled Overnight Lows, came out in 2020.
Her last post on Instagram came in late 2024 and was a selfie of the couple.
“I’ve never met anyone like her before,” Stewart told People in 2022. “She is so smart and so informed. And her intellectual accomplishments are extraordinary. She remembers everything.”
Ozell is Stewart’s third wife. He was previously married to Sheila Falconer from 1966 to 1990, with whom he shares two children, Daniel and Sophie, and Wendy Neuss from 2000 to 2003.
