Retail Therapist: Light Outerwear Season Is Supposed to Be Exciting. So Why Am I So Bored?

The good thing is we can always think outside of the light outerwear box. Harrington jackets, work jackets, shirt-jackets, denim jackets, and windbreakers are the main options and they serve us well. But those are just the basics, the tip of the iceberg, if you will. We have plenty more options if we just expand our thinking ever so slightly.

Dress Down the Tailored Jacket

For whatever reason, tailored jackets don’t get seen in the same light as other outerwear. Let’s break that habit. Try for a sportcoat or blazer with an unlined construction and in a lighter material like cotton or a tropical-weight wool. If you’ve got a more casual suit with more of a matte finish, you can easily wear the jacket without the matching trousers. Break up the stuffy sartorial vibe and pair your tailored jacket with jeans and a vintage tee, cords and a denim shirt, cargos and a V-neck sweater, or, if you’re savvy enough, shorts and a polo.
