This strange, strange game has come to a conclusion…for now. Apple TV unleashed the explosive (and emotional) Slow Horses Season 6 finale today, laying the groundwork for an intriguing seventh season. Here’s what we know so far about the next installment in the hit comedic spy thriller.
Before we forge ahead, though, let’s pour two out for Flyte and Coe. The best joes ever to joe.
What Will ‘Slow Horses’ Season 7 Be About?

Apple TV
Apple greenlit Slow Horses Season 7 on July 8, 2025, a few months before Season 5’s debut. It will adapt the eighth book in Mick Herron‘s bestselling Slough House series, titled Bad Actors. Here’s a brief (and delightfully vague) synopsis, per Apple:
“In Season 7, Lamb and his Slow Horses are on the hunt to find and neutralize a mole at the heart of British Government before they can bring down the state.”
The Season 6 finale, “Judgment Day,” ends on quite the cliffhanger (I reiterate, here there be spoilers). The eponymous Slow Horses square off against Russian agents. Flyte goes out like a badass. River reunites (again) with his estranged father, Frank Harkness.
Sid finds her way back to River’s grandfather’s house, where she leaves a light on for him. While Sid takes a shower, River prepares for a romantic evening—until he collapses. He’s been poisoned, but by whom?
In the Season 7 teaser tacked on at the end of Episode 6, we see Standish asking Lamb about River. Lamb seems to believe he’s dead. Taverner reveals that GRU head Vassily Rasnikov is in the UK…and he’s seemingly after her. It looks like we’ll see Taverner on the run in some capacity in Season 7. Lamb recognizes that Rasnikov sent the two Russian agents to murder his joes in Season 6. Rasnikov is planning something even bigger than hunting down Taverner.
Next, Lamb tells Shirley she’s “going to rehab” after she takes an iron to the windshield of a bus. Roddy now has blonde hair, potentially in memory of Flyte. There are also loads of action sequences, gunfights, people narrowly avoiding calamity, and plenty of examples of a lack of impulse control.
My money is on Lamb and the gang learning River was poisoned, and they’ll set out to uncover the culprit. River’s most likely not dead, but he might be spending less time running in Season 7.
Who Will Star in ‘Slow Horses’ Season 7?

Apple TV
Season 7 will certainly include familiar faces: Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, Jack Lowden as River Cartwright (in what capacity, only time will tell), Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner, Hugo Weaving as Frank Harkness, Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish, Rosalind Eleazar as Louisa Guy, Christopher Chung as Roddy Ho, Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Shirley Dander, Joanna Scanlan as Moira Tregorian, Lucian Msamati as Oliver Nash, James Callis as Claude Whelan, and Olivia Cooke as Sid Baker.
Deadline announced that five new cast members will join the fray for Slow Horses Season 7. We’ve already seen a few of them in the aforementioned teaser. Varada Sethu, Ethan Moorehouse, Tuppence Middleton, Merab Ninidze, and Joshua McGuire have been cast in roles yet to be disclosed.
Is There a Release Date?

Apple TV
Slow Horses is a streaming rarity these days. The beloved Apple TV espionage thriller has released a new season every year since its debut in 2022. (Of course, it helps that each season only has six episodes.) Filming has already wrapped for Season 7, and production for Season 8 is underway. Based on the episode rollout for the past three seasons, we should anticipate a fall release next year—perhaps September 2027.
And since each season premieres on a Wednesday, might I suggest Sept. 15, 2027? If anyone from Apple is reading this, that is.
Slow Horses Seasons 1-6 are now streaming on Apple TV.
