Even if Jack Lowden doesn’t land the James Bond casting he’s reportedly being considered for, he’s already got the role of one of Britain’s other literary heroes.
The Scottish actor will star as Fitzwilliam Darcy in Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice series, alongside Emma Corrin (The Crown, Lady Chatterley’s Lover) as Elizabeth Bennet, in a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic 1813 novel, adapted for the screen by bestselling author Dolly Alderton.
In a new trailer for the series, which is set to release on Netflix on December 3, fans of Austen — or perhaps, fans of Lowden’s most notable work, Apple TV’s Slow Horses — get a glimpse of the star-crossed lovers as they risk reputation for romance.
Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown), Rufus Sewell (A Knight’s Tale, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Freya Mavor (Skins, Industry), Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper, Only Murders in the Building), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande), Sienna Kelly (Black Mirror, Domino Day), Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes, House of Guinness), Jasmine Blackborow (Shadow and Bone, The Gentlemen), Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats, Barbie), and Fiona Shaw (Andor, Killing Eve) also star in the upcoming series.
In just eight hours, the trailer for Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice has amassed over 500k views, placing the Austen adaptation adjacent to new trailers for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (which Lowden has also starred in) and the David Fincher-directed The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, a follow-up to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, according to data from FlixPatrol.
By the time Pride and Prejudice arrives on Netflix in the weeks leading up to Christmas, fans of Lowden’s work may know whether or not the Scot has clinched the role of 007, as screen tests for the iconic role are reportedly underway in the coming weeks.
