Sony’s PlayStation 6 Will Likely Cost More Than $1000, Reportedly

Despite not officially being announced by Sony or PlayStation, the rumor mill continues to churn regarding the pricing of the inevitable PlayStation 6 console. Now, at least reportedly, it seems we have a decent ballpark estimate of the console’s probable price, and it may go down as the most expensive video game console in history.

According to user KeplerL2, an insider who has accurately reported costs in the past, in a post on NeoGAF, has stated that just the “RAM + NAND alone” will cost more than $680 per console. That does not factor in any other manufacturing costs, parts, hardware, or distribution. KeplerL2 is alleging that Sony finalized the design and hardware specifications for the PlayStation 6 before the market prices skyrocketed.

The current price of the PlayStation 5 is $649, which is quite a bit more than the $499.99 disc version of the console that launched back in 2020, alongside a slightly cheaper digital-only device.

Since then, PlayStation has released the PlayStation 5 Pro, too, and its price is currently $899 after price increases. The reason for the price increase was cited as an unstable economy and the impact of global tariffs.

RAM costs have also increased for all technology, as many tech companies have bought a large supply of RAM, server chips, and HB memory, much of which has been used to invest in AI data centers.

With the PS5 Pro already nearing the $1000 price tag, it seems likely that the base version of the PS6 will cost at least that much. That also does not factor in any add-ons, disc drives, or accessories.

PlayStation is also still feeling the heat from some consumers after PlayStation announced the decision to end support for physical media from January 2028 onward.

PlayStation has not officially commented on any of this information, nor has PlayStation confirmed particular pricing for the PlayStation 6.
