Why We Love This Deal
If you use an iPhone, you already instinctively know what IP68 is. It means the device is completely dust-proof and won’t get damaged, even if submerged in water. That tech was revolutionary for mobile devices, but what if you could extend that same power to other valuables? For just $9, you can—Walmart sells 8.5-gallon storage totes that do the same thing.
Sterilite IP68 Gasket Tote 8.5 Gallon Storage Bins are just $9 each at Walmart. The Sterilite Brand is well-known for its BPA-free storage containers. This bestselling storage bin line also has 13.5-gallon and 20-gallon options available at $13 and $17, respectively. These are the boxes you want protecting valuables in your basement, especially this winter.

What Shoppers Should Know
- Dimensions: 23⅛ x 15⅝ x 13 inches
- Capacity: 8 Gallons
- Material: BPA-free plastic with silicone gasket
- IP Rating: IP68
- Best Use Case: Convenient storage of goods you don’t want to get wet or dusty.
For whatever reason, the product images for this box make it look sort of small. It’s not. At about 23-by-16-by-13 inches, you could fit a trumpet inside. Actually, several trumpets if that’s your thing. Just make sure you can fully close the latches on the side and don’t inhibit the silicone gasket so it can do its job—provide a strong seal.
When I initially heard of the idea of an IP68 storage box, I immediately thought of the use it would have for a flood-prone area, such as my home in Florida. What I got wrong was that I thought these boxes would be reserved solely for your finest things, but at just $9 a box, I really don’t think that’s the case anymore. This is a very affordable product.
One thing you may want to do is throw in a moisture grabber or even some rice in some cheesecloth to pull out moisture. If water can’t get in, it can’t get out, and that’s a recipe for mold if you don’t watch it.

What Shoppers Are Saying
One shopper declared that these boxes are “excellent for storing things that need to be kept moisture- and bug-free.”
Another noted how strong the latches are. “Sturdy tote, lid locks down tight with latches on ends and sides. Contents won’t fall out if it trips over.” They also endorsed this as a good box for storage while you’re camping.
The Sterilite IP68 Gasket Tote 8 Gallon Storage Bin is just $9 a box, and you can get a 13.5-gallon or 20-gallon for $13 or $17.
