For millions of Prime Video subscribers around the world, Jack Quaid will always be the good-hearted, albeit sometimes naive, Hughie Campbell from The Boys. He portrayed the character for the series’ five-season run, surviving all the chaos caused by the show’s big bad, Homelander (Antony Starr). That being said, Quaid actually stepped out of the Hughie role for a 2025 thriller that wowed critics and fans alike. A movie that’s now streaming on Hulu.
The film in question follows Quaid’s Josh Beeman as he’s caught in a twisted robotic love triangle that’s laced with murder and greed. But is Josh the victim or the villain in all of this? Introducing the Companion.
‘Companion’ Is Now Streaming on Hulu

Written and directed by Drew Hancock, Companion hit theaters in January 2025 and raked in nearly $37 million at the box office worldwide. It’s one of the most uncanny murder thrillers, as it takes your typical murder-for-money plot and turns it on its head by adding artificial intelligence, or the “companion” portrayed by Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets). Plus, with the AI component, the movie serves as an eye-opening look into the boundaries (or lack thereof) of technology and its implications for the future. It’s hard to get too far into the weeds of the plot without completely giving it away, so here’s the official trailer for Companion.
“The Whole Thing Is Freaky and Funny as Hell”
Again, Companion was a ratings winner among critics and moviegoers. As of publication, it’s Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a Tomatometer score of 93%. Jeannette Catsoulis with the New York Times wrote, “Cycling smoothly through multiple genres — rom-com, crime thriller, slasher sendup — the movie assembles a broad satire of gender dynamics from scraps of sci-fi and a generous dollop of technophobia.” Additionally, William Bibbiani of The Wrap simply stated, “The whole thing is freaky and funny as hell.”
Indie Wire’s Christian Zilko was also quite on point with his assessment of the movie when he noted, “There’s a lot to enjoy about Companion, from Hancock’s sleek visuals, smooth pacing, and twisty script, to Thatcher’s uncanny performance as an android who borders on humanity without ever crossing the threshold.”
Again, Companion is now available to stream on Hulu.
