The Kansas City Chiefs visited the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks and were dominated for four quarters. The Chiefs were undefeated and looked like one of the league’s best teams, but you couldn’t have guessed that just from their performance tonight.
Seattle handled Kansas City from the jump, scoring first on a 25-yard field goal by Jason Myers. Later in the second quarter, Sam Darnold connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 28-yard touchdown. Seattle pushed the lead to 13-0 with a 35-yard field goal by Myers. Finally, Harrison Butker got the Chiefs on the board with a 50-yard field goal. However, that was their only score of the game, and Seattle scored on an Emuel Wilson 21-yard touchdown to make the final score 20-3.
Seattle’s offense had a solid day as Darnold went 20 of 28 for 257 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Wilson had 100 yards on 24 carries and the aforementioned touchdown. Smith-Njigba caught 9 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown.
For the Chiefs, it was an absolute nightmare as Patrick Mahomes went 19 of 33 for 165 yards, no touchdowns, and 1 interception. One of the worst stat lines in his career. Kenneth Walker III came into the game averaging 133 rushing yards per game. Today, he was shut down, rushing for just 36 yards on 14 carries.
Travis Kelce led all receivers with 4 receptions for 44 yards. Noah Gray caught 3 passes for 44 yards, and Kenneth Walker III added 4 receptions for 21 yards.
The Chiefs entered the game as one of only two remaining undefeated teams after the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Atlanta Falcons earlier today. The other team is the Minnesota Vikings, who outlasted the Indianapolis Colts. I very much doubt anyone would have picked the Vikings as the final undefeated team, given their lack of offensive production. Their defense has proven formidable, and that’s what allowed them to outlast their competition.
The Chiefs have the Denver Broncos up next, whom they defeated 31-10 in Week 1. Seattle will take on the Chicago Bears next week on Monday Night Football.
