Trevor Jackson is bringing early-2000s denim back into the conversation.
The actor and musician attended the True Religion x Baby Phat runway show on Oct. 27 in Van Nuys, California, wearing True Religion denim as the two Y2K fashion giants celebrated their first collaboration. Baby Phat founder Kimora Lee Simmons hosted the show.
The event turned a private airplane hangar into a hot-pink fashion experience. Let’s say a private jet served as the backdrop, and models walked the runway in low-rise jeans, fitted tops, and crystal-covered pieces.
Jackson’s appearance showed that the Y2K revival isn’t limited to womenswear. While Baby Phat is closely associated with glamorous women’s streetwear, True Religion’s denim has long held a place in men’s wardrobes. His relaxed denim look offered men a more understated way to tap into the renewed interest in early-2000s fashion.
The collaboration combines each brand’s most recognizable design codes. True Religion contributed its signature horseshoe branding and statement denim, while Baby Phat added hot pink, crystals, satin, faux-fur accents and its signature cat logo.
Every bottom in the collection features a low-rise silhouette, including bootcut, flared and baggy jeans, sweatpants and micro skirts. The assortment also includes denim puffers, satin jackets, coordinating sets, baby tees and crystal-embellished accessories.
The launch revisits the louder side of the early 2000s. After years dominated by minimalism and quiet luxury, rhinestones, visible logos, oversized denim and low-rise silhouettes are once again appearing across celebrity wardrobes and social media.
The night also brought out Justine Skye, Dreezy, Jaleel White, India Love, D’Lila and Jessie Combs, GiGi Gorgeous and several reality television personalities. Skye and rising singer Yume performed during the runway presentation before guests moved into an after-party.
Love Island USA personalities Aniya Harvey and Kayda Bosse front the collaboration’s campaign, inspired by early reality television and MTV’s Making the Video. The creative follows the pair through fittings, glam sessions, confessionals, and the final campaign reveal.
True Religion x Baby Phat is available through both brands’ websites. Although much of the collection centers on women’s silhouettes, Jackson’s appearance reminded men interested in Y2K style that a strong pair of jeans may be all you need to participate.
