J. Crew’s Barn Jacket and Barbour’s Beaufort Jacket are getting elegant updates as part of the American/British menswear partnership.

Make space in your closet this fall, as J. Crew and Barbour are trading places by putting their own respective spins on utterly classic styles from each brand as part of a limited-edition capsule collection.

Just in time for lakeside strolls and foliage-focused getaways, the duo teamed up for fresh takes on two menswear staples, the J. Crew Barn Jacket and the fan-favorite, near-legendary Barbour Beaufort Jacket. In a refreshing fashion collab twist, J. Crew x Barbour sees each company trying its hand at reinventing an icon of the other brand, an effort “bringing together J. Crew’s American prep heritage and Barbour’s English craftsmanship,” the brands said in a statement.

For Barbour, the 132-year-old English countryside staple, that meant reinventing the J. Crew Barn Jacket using its own flagship waxed cotton fabrication, specifically in a handsome Blackwatch Plaid (another staple of Barbour outerwear). The jacket also receives Barbour’s signature tartan lining and a cognac corduroy collar, plus co-branded labeling and an English spaniel enamel lapel pin for a dash of debonair style.

As J. Crew notes, “both jackets are made to be lived in,” adding that “the waxed cotton softens with wear, taking on more character over time and becoming your own along the way.” It’s a fitting sentiment coming from both a modern American style staple and a legendary brand with well over a century’s worth of history. J. Crew rightly notes that “Barbour has spent generations creating outerwear for life outdoors,” while its own Barn Jacket “has become a classic in its own right.”
The partnership carries on a run of rugged-yet-versatile J. Crew collaborations, including a fresh spring denim drop with Lee, while the acclaimed J. Crew Wallace & Barnes line just made its return in time for classic fall workwear dressing.

The J. Crew twist on the hard-wearing Barbour Beaufort Jacket makes stellar, stylish use of the American company’s own hallmarks, livening up the silhouette in a vivid Apple Green colorway. Barbour’s own four-ounce waxed cotton gives the jacket both heft and a supple nature made to break in over time, as J. Crew notes the build is “a weight ideal for transitional weather.” A hunter green corduroy collar lends a timeless look and added warmth when turned up against the cold, while Barbour’s own tartan lining cements the durable jacket as a new twist on a long-running foundational piece of outerwear.

The J. Crew take on arguably the centerpiece of Barbour’s menswear roster also comes complete with an apple lapel pin, along with co-branded labeling to match its counterpart. J. Crew sagely notes each jacket was “made for the city, the countryside and everywhere in between.” Priced at $480 and available in J. Crew stores and online at J. Crew, the promise of time well-spent (and well-outfitted) in the great outdoors this season could prove too good to pass up.
