More details have emerged about the possibility of a former WWE Champion landing with the rival AEW promotion.
AEW has signed several notable ex-WWE superstars this year, including the legendary tandem of Kofi and Austin Creed (the New Day in WWE), the Motor City Machine Guns and former United States Champion Ilja Dragunov.
Since former world champion Sheamus (real name Stephen Farrelly) left WWE in July, there has been speculation about him landing in AEW. He’s been free to sign elsewhere since Oct. 1, when his WWE contract officially expired.
In an update, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that AEW doesn’t appear to have “a huge urgency” to sign Sheamus.
Sapp noted that AEW stars and former WWE talents Claudio Castagnoli (Cesaro in WWE) and Adam Copeland (Edge in WWE) have voiced their wish to have Sheamus join the promotion.
“There doesn’t seem to be a huge urgency in bringing him in, but there are some heavy hitters like Claudio Castagnoli and Adam Copeland that have made it clear that they would like him there,” Sapp said. “Sheamus has had talks with other companies. I don’t know if he’s had direct talks with All Elite Wrestling, but nothing seems imminent.”
Since opening its doors in 2019, AEW has been the most popular landing spot for ex-WWE superstars. However, it appears Sheamus is taking his time to determine the next wrestlin gchapter.

It’s anybody’s guess how much longer Sheamus wants to work in the ring, but his spot in the WWE Hall of Fame has been a virtual lock for a while.
In WWE, Sheamus won four world championships (three WWE titles, one World Heavyweight Championship), the 2010 King of the Ring tournament, the 2012 Royal Rumble and the 2015 Money in the Bank match. The only title belt keeping him out of the Grand Slam club was the Intercontinental Championship.
