Yoshi P Gives a Sneak Peek at Evolved Mode Job Changes for ‘Final Fantasy 14: Evercold’

The last Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival, held in Tokyo, just ended, and the game’s director dropped some massive teases about the Evolved Job changes for one of the original game’s jobs coming in Evercold.

On the second day of the event, after the Keynote address, Yoshi P took to the stage to answer various questions from fans in attendance. The session was exclusively in Japanese, but users on the official Final Fantasy 14 Discord server provided English translations.

Yoshi P gave a surprising amount of answers and details. One of the biggest ones was near the start of the session. Yoshi P was asked: “Can you tell us a little bit about Black Mage Evolved Mode?”

Yoshi P then stated that the job’s current ability “triplecast” will be going away and something will be replacing it.

He also confirmed that the job’s use of Ley Lines will change. Instead of being on a timer, the Ley Lines will be available for use for a certain number of abilities, and then they will disappear.

That may result in Black Mage becoming even more mobile instead and having fewer hard casts than it currently does in Dawntrail.

Yoshi P also confirmed the bird, a part of the new Evercold job Zephyr, will be dyeable.

The new Evolved Mode will see job reworks for all of the existing jobs in FF14. The idea from the developers is to focus on the individuality of jobs, moving away from the homogenization of the roles over the years. Both of the new jobs coming in Evercold, Bastion and Zephyr, will only have the Evolved Mode combat system available, while all the other jobs will have both the new system and a system similar to the existing one, which is called Reborn Mode.

Final Fantasy 14: Evercold will release on February 23, 2027, with early access beginning on February 19.
