I’m Reviewing the AI Agent by SiteGround

More or less, type a task in plain English, and the agent carries it out. It seems to handle a lot of everyday site work well, but there’s a catch. It’s neither completely free nor can you always use it with “any host”… I’ll get to that in a minute.

Below, I’ll walk through the features, setup, privacy details, and costs so you can decide if this AI plugin is worth your time (and often money).

An introduction to AI Agent by SiteGround

As I said, this plugin had a rough start. In short, one day, SiteGround decided to auto-install it on all their customers’ sites. People were a bit surprised, to say the least, and this story is clearly visible in the reviews on WordPress.org even to this day:

Setting this aside, the plugin’s feature list is quite long and can be appealing. The agent can:

  • write and publish posts,
  • build menus,
  • translate pages,
  • manage WooCommerce products and orders,
  • update plugins,
  • edit users and site settings, and more.

Then there’s a safety feature called Power Mode that makes it pause for your confirmation before deletions or bulk changes, which addresses the biggest worry people have about AI touching their site.

The pricing needs a closer look, though. The plugin is free, but running tasks costs AI tokens, and the only free token plan requires a paid SiteGround purchase of some kind. If you’re happy with your current host, that still means becoming a SiteGround customer anyway.

Usage-wise, the plugin adds a chat-based assistant to your dashboard, allowing you to describe a task and have the agent carry it out. Instead of giving instructions alone, it can work with site content, store settings, plugins, themes, and other WordPress features.

The plugin connects WordPress to SiteGround AI Studio – the platform that provides the agent’s AI capabilities.

  • Important! AI Studio acts as the workspace behind the service, while the plugin creates the connection between that workspace and your WordPress installation.

Technically speaking, AI Agent can work with WordPress sites hosted by any provider (more on that later), but using it with a site hosted on SiteGround is a lot easier – just a one-click integration.

Key features ⚙️

AI Agent offers a variety of features; I’ll highlight the main ones, and those you’ll likely use most often.

1. Content management

The agent can create, edit, publish, unpublish, and delete posts and pages. It can also generate supporting text and images, which is helpful when you need to prepare a complete draft rather than writing copy and sourcing visuals separately. (Not that I would advise you to rely on it 100%.)

I can ask it to build navigation menus, arrange pages into a clear hierarchy, restructure taxonomies, and perform other website content management tasks. For example, it can merge categories and reassign posts to keep the site organized after a content cleanup. The agent also handles comments if you receive many.

The plugin’s SEO support covers missing metadata and basic on-page improvements. The agent can audit content, then generate SEO titles, meta descriptions, keywords, image alt text, captions, and other SEO artifacts. I’d still advise reviewing those suggestions before publishing, as the best wording depends on the page’s purpose and search intent, which the agent doesn’t always understand.

The .org listing also states that the plugin can translate entire posts for you, but this isn’t necessarily a built-in plugin feature (like an option or button you can click). Instead, you can simply instruct the chat to translate a post.

2. Context awareness and main UI

The agent can view the current page and understand parts of the site structure. This context helps it make more relevant changes instead of treating every instruction as an isolated request.

Block-scoped editing allows you to target one part of a post or page. I can ask the agent to change a specific heading, paragraph, image, or other block without rewriting the entire document.

On block themes, the agent can also edit global header and footer template parts. This allows changes to shared site elements from the same chat-based workflow, though I would double-check the result before making a site-wide design change this way.

The chat can run inside wp-admin, on the logged-in front end, or in a full-screen view.

Display modes include a view mode switcher, and chat history lets you return to earlier conversations when you need to review previous instructions.

The agent also supports messages with attachments. I can send a file or image, then continue the conversation from that attachment. For example, you can ask the agent to perform an operation on that attachment – tweak the graphic or something.

3. WooCommerce management

For WooCommerce stores, the agent can create and update products. Its tasks include changing prices, descriptions, labels, stock details, etc. It can also help manage inventory when product information needs regular updates.

The agent can also help you work with orders and customer order details. This can often be faster than manually searching for this information across several admin screens.

Store reporting is another useful feature. You can ask for information about sales, top products, coupon usage, and other broader trends. These reports can help you review your store activity through a conversation with an agent that already has all the information.

And, of course, the agent can perform operations on your entire product catalog, such as translations, applying a coupon code globally, replacing product images, and so on.

4. Plugins and themes

AI Agent can install, remove, and update WordPress plugins and themes. It can also audit installed items, including their version numbers and update status.

This provides a quick way to check your site’s technical state. You can ask which plugins need updates, check for any recent security reports, and remove unused plugins or themes.

Similar functionality is available through many WordPress MCP plugins, by the way, such as Easy MCP AI.

5. Site settings, media, and user management

The agent can change several core site settings, including the site title, tagline, language, timezone, and permalink structure – basically most of what you can do through the main Settings screen in WordPress. I would confirm each change before applying it, though.

User management includes creating accounts, resetting passwords, and changing roles and permissions. This can simplify routine administration, but I would use extra care when changing administrator access or creating accounts for other people.

AI Agent also offers media generation or editing. For example, you can go to any post, add an image block, and then specify what you want to have generated:

6. Power Mode provides a safety layer

Power Mode is off by default. With it disabled, the agent pauses before high-impact actions and asks me to confirm the change. This provides a review step before an instruction can remove content, change global settings, or otherwise significantly alter the site. In short, Power Mode is required for actions that can create broad or difficult-to-reverse changes.

This setup helps reduce the risk of an accidental instruction damaging a site. The existence of this feature should be good news if you’re one of those users who worry about AI accidentally breaking your site. This helps prevent it.

Aside from that, the Activity Log records page and post changes, so you can always review what happened after the agent works on your content.

7. The AI Connector

The plugin also enables SiteGround AI as an AI connector for WordPress’ native AI features. This activates AI features for tasks such as generating text, creating images, producing code, translating content, researching information, and other AI-assisted tasks. The agent handles broader site tasks, while the connector supports AI features available through WordPress itself.

connector

The connector automatically routes each request between available models. You do not need to create or manage separate API keys for these connected features, as long as you’re comfortable with how SiteGround handles your tokens.

You can switch the connector off separately from the agent. Turning off the connector does not disable the AI Agent entirely, so you can keep site-management functions available while stopping the native WordPress AI connection.

8. Privacy and data – what gets sent to SiteGround

AI Agent sends your requests and related website information to SiteGround’s AI Studio API. According to the plugin’s official info from the plugin listing, this can include your prompts, WordPress version, active plugins, theme details, the content being edited, your site URL, and authentication tokens.

The plugin uses this connection whenever you chat with the agent, generate content, connect your site, or refresh access credentials.

It’s basically your middleman. 🤷‍♂️

It’s up to you to decide whether you’re okay with that.

You can also use AI Studio directly through your SiteGround client area (it will have awareness of your site too):

How to use AI Agent by SiteGround 🤔

The plugin requires only a few setup steps:

Connect the agent to WordPress

Start by installing the plugin as usual. Go to Plugins → Add New and search for “AI Agent by SiteGround.” After activation, you will need to access your SiteGround AI Studio account. Yes, you do need an AI Studio account since it performs all the work behind the scenes.

You can connect this to a site hosted anywhere using a connection key provided by SiteGround, but it’s much easier if your site is already hosted at SiteGround. In that case, you can connect everything with one click.

ai connection

Give the agent a specific task

After connecting the site, you can open the AI Agent chat bubble inside wp-admin.

chat trigger

Then, simply describe the action you want. Specific instructions usually produce better results.

However, you can ask for almost anything, such as:

  • “Write and publish a blog post about topic X,”
  • “set a 10% discount on all my WooCommerce products,”
  • or, of course, “update all my plugins.”

The agent reviews the request, identifies the necessary WordPress tools, and carries out the task through the connected website. For larger or sensitive changes, it may ask for confirmation before proceeding.

That covers the chat, but you can also use this AI agent directly when working on posts. You’ll notice a couple of new elements there.

First, there’s the new AI Studio block that you can add to your page:

ai studio block

Yes, it is essentially an inline AI chat interface. Just ask it what you want generated.

You can also perform operations on any piece of text within a blog post you’re working on. A new AI STUDIO button will appear along with some options on the right:
