Updates to the WordPress Marketing Repository – WordPress.org Marketing

Hi everyone! In case you haven’t been watching the marketing Slack, the marketing repo has been getting some love lately. As promised, a variety of AI marketing skills are now available. All of these are built on the WordPress Brand Writing Style Guide, an adaptation of our handbook guide specifically written for agents, and are the same skills used in a few automated workflows. They should be a boon for anyone writing in the WordPress voice.

  • wordpress-writer-news: A useful skill if you’re writing for WordPress.org The community site where WordPress code is created and shared by the users. This is where you can download the source code for WordPress core, plugins and themes as well as the central location for community conversations and organization. https://wordpress.org//news, this will write in the WordPress voice by default and ensure formatting matches other content there.
  • wordpress-writer-news-event-recap: Similar to the News skill, this is specifically used for creating event recaps. In case you’ve ever wondered how our event recaps get published so quickly (usually while everyone is still at the after-party), this is it.
  • wordpress-writer-showcase: This is the skill used to draft WordPress Showcase entries based on submission material. Drafts are included in all submission issues that pass initial verification.
  • wordpress-writer-social: This is the same skill used in all the existing workflows that create social content. It covers all social platforms.

These skills have been in use and incrementally improved over the last couple of years. They represent continued learning based on content performance and the latest model changes. That said, if you utilize any of these for your own work, use these as a starting point and feel free to break the rules. I often combine these skills with my own voice files. If you learn anything particularly useful, PRs are welcome.

And speaking of PRs, the largely outdated marketing handbook now syncs from GitHub, While the team may be inactive, much of the documentation around WordPress on social platforms, the WPTV-to-YT sync, Showcase moderation, and more is still relevant. Now, anyone, including agents, can submit PRs for updates.

More to come:

  • As we migrate many workflows from Zapier to n8n, expect to see those show up here. I’m excited for this invisible infrastructure to be more visible and available for other projects to copy/steal.
  • @bjmcsherry and I have been using an agent to continually monitor comms for issues. Once we have a dashboard built and documented, I’ll also share it here. Like the shared skills, I hope this proves to be a useful tool for contributors across the project.
  • We’re cleaning up old issues. We currently have 60 open non-amplification, non-showcase issues. Many of these are years old and no longer relevant.

As always, the goal here is to make great software and support the people who use it in telling their own stories. WordPress is marketed by the millions of people who build with it, write about it, teach it, and gather around it at events. This work makes that ecosystem visible, removes friction from contribution, and ensures that the tools and systems for sharing WordPress’s story are available to everyone.
