Amy Madigan Joins John Logan’s Elite Corporate Fixer Thriller Series Starring Viola Davis & Sam Heughan

After winning Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Zach Cregger‘s “Weapons,” Amy Madigan is joining an impressive lineup in a new thriller series, “Ascent,” that comes from veteran screenwriter John Logan and Paramount+.

As mentioned by Deadline in their reporting, Madigan is taking a key part alongside fellow Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis (“Widows,” “How to Get Away with Murder”) and Sam Heughan (“Outlander”). She’ll be playing Rachel, “a former executive at Ascent Ventures and lifelong mentor to Davis’ elite corporate fixer, Catriona.”

A synopsis for Logan’s fixer show:

“Set in the dangerous world of global corporate crisis and damage control, Ascent watches as Catriona must weaponize the ruthless skills that have made her indispensable to billion-dollar clients when her estranged daughter is in danger.”

That new original streaming series hails from Paramount Television Studios, and “Ascent” is created, executive produced, and will be showrun by Logan. Other executive producers include Michael Aguilar, as well as Davis and Julius Tennon at their production banner JuVee Productions.

Logan, an acclaimed film screenwriter and respected playwright, is likely best known for impressive works in Hollywood over the decades such as scripts for “Any Given Sunday,” “Gladiator,” “The Last Samurai,” “Hugo,” “Skyfall,” “Spectre,” “Alien: Covenant,” and the billion-dollar hit music world biopic “Michael.” His previous TV credits include “Penny Dreadful” and “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.”

Paramount+ has been a streaming service built on getting high-profile names attached to the original TV offerings, such as the Taylor Sheridan projects over the years, usually helping to draw HUGE amounts of eyeballs (Kevin Costner, Zoe Saldaña, Sly Stallone, Billy Bob Thornton, and more). So, we’re going to be curious to see if they’ll be trying to get Logan to help flesh out their TV division by doing more shows beyond “Ascent,” with Sheridan signing a new development deal with NBCUniversal and Skydance‘s need for new TV projects in the wake of that.
