Apple has acknowledged an issue affecting the iPhone Duo’s inner display after reports emerged of screens cracking just hours after customers started using their new devices.
The issue has reportedly affected multiple owners of Apple’s foldable iPhone, with some sharing images of damaged displays despite having only recently purchased the $2,000 device.
Apple has now confirmed that it is investigating the problem and has advised affected customers to contact AppleCare for a replacement.
Apple confirms iPhone Duo display issues
On October 26, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that several iPhone Duo owners had contacted him with images and accounts of their devices developing cracks shortly after purchase.
According to Gurman, some customers experienced screen problems within hours of using their new phones.
He also reported that Apple had not yet provided its retail stores or customer service representatives with specific guidance on how to handle the issue, although the company was investigating.
Apple subsequently issued a statement acknowledging the problem, saying it was affecting a limited number of devices.
“We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.”
The company has not disclosed how many devices are affected or identified what is causing the screens to crack.
It is also unclear whether the issue is related to a manufacturing defect or another problem with the foldable display.
For now, Apple is directing customers who experience problems with their iPhone Duo’s inner screen to AppleCare for a replacement.
The issue comes shortly after the launch of Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which features an inner display that unfolds to provide a larger screen alongside its traditional outer display.
