Yesterday, it was revealed EA would be shutting down the RPG developer BioWare and ending “early development” on its next Mass Effect project.

Now, in an update, a trailer of this game has apparently surfaced online, with Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier confirming it’s the “real” deal. BioWare was supposedly working on it right up “until its closure”:

Jason Schreier: “Can confirm that this is a real trailer of the Mass Effect game that BioWare was developing up until its closure yesterday.”

It shows an entire scene, which blends in-engine footage with some returning characters and over-the-shoulder action segments. It ends with the official title ‘Mass Effect Universe‘ and a message saying it is “coming soon“.

While it’s not known who exactly has leaked this footage, a Reddit user who claims to be an EA employee says a trailer was ready to go for the next major Mass Effect game.

According to a report from Schreier, BioWare’s closure is part of EA’s latest cost-cutting measures, which will see around 400 jobs eliminated (including roughly 50 positions at BioWare).

The last major Mass Effect game released was Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2017, which followed the Mass Effect trilogy led by Commander Sheppard. Mass Effect 3 was released on the Wii U in 2012.
