‘Lost’ $10 Million Stephen Curry Collectible Dubbed The ‘White Whale’ Of Sports Trading Cards

Stephen Curry’s name is synonymous with excellence. The only unanimous MVP in NBA history and the reason the Golden State Warriors are worth $13.5 billion, it makes sense that they signed him to a two-year extension worth $116 million at age 38.

The brilliance he displays on the NBA hardwood has also come into focus off the court, with his collectibles pulling in millions of dollars.

There is, however, one card of his that is deemed to be the ‘holy grail’ of all Steph Curry cards, and the sole reason behind it is that it has never been pulled. Or it has been pulled, and the card’s owner simply refuses to step forward.

This is the 2009-10 Topps Chrome Stephen Curry 1-of-1 SuperFractor Rookie Card. Mum’s the word on this collectible, as whispers of this card have led to nothing but empty trails over the past 17 years.

It has since been dubbed the ‘white whale’ not only of the Curry card collection but of the entire sports trading card bubble.

Due to its rarity and the collective hype around the card, its value has been estimated to exceed the eight-figure mark, i.e., $10 million. This valuation isn’t all that far-fetched, simply because of who Curry is in the ethos of North American sports.

What Other Cards Have Yet to Be Pulled?

There may be over 8 billion people in the world, but not everybody’s ripping open packs to find the rarest sports trading cards that have ever been printed.

This has led to quite a few cards being lost in the ether and/or simply never having been pulled.

One such is the 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection LeBron James Logoman Auto 1/1. This card, if pulled and in pristine condition, could command a seven-figure payout.

Another card is the Luka Doncic Black 1/1 from the 2018-19 Panini Prizm collection. Geoff Wilson famously tricked the internet into thinking he had pulled this card last year on April Fool’s Day.

Collector Shyne150 also put out a $1.5 million bounty for the card back in 2023, further cementing the one-of-one card’s ‘grail’ status.

The LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry Triple Auto 1/1 card from Topps that was released during the 2024 Olympics has also yet to surface.

Fanatics’ Michael Rubin, when asked about the “challenge” with finding this card among others, said it isn’t one that needs to be “solved”. He said, “There’s still a percentage of the inventory that’s out there.”

It’s safe to say that with these ultra-rare cards out and about, collectors will hold their breath each time they open packs that may feature them in the chance that they snag themselves a million-dollar lottery ticket.
