Sam Adams’ New Beer Has Some Strange, Sweet Flavors

Sam Adams continues to be one of the most prominent and well-received beer companies in the United States. The Boston-based brewery is known for their seasonal offerings, like their famous Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Ale that are perfect for some Autumnal drinks. Now with Winter quickly approaching, Sam Adams is taking an experimental approach with a limited time Cherry Chocolate Stout.

The Stout combines chocolate, cherry, and vanilla flavors with a dark malt roast, reminiscent of a Christmastime chocolate box enjoyed around the country. A spokesperson for Sam Adams said the decadent, fruity flavors are “the perfect addition to the holiday lineup”, fit to be enjoyed alone by the fire or entertaining holiday guests.

The 6% ABV Stout will be sold exclusively as part of this year’s Winter Variety Pack. This is an annual 12-pack of four different beers from Sam Adams. The other three in this year’s pack are returning flavors: the classic Winter Lager with hints of cinnamon and ginger; the popular Winter White Ale, which has nearly double the sales of any other winter seasonal beer; and Old Fezziwig, a spiced brown ale with caramel and toffee notes.

Sam Adams Provided Meal Pairing Suggestions For Their Cherry Stout

Even though Sam Adams has gone with some surprising flavors for their new stout, the company has not created something un-pairable. Unsurprisingly, however, the Cherry Chocolate Stout is suggested as an after-dinner treat, or maybe matched with a dessert.

The Boston brewery has experimented with uncommon flavors before. The now-discontinued Verloren beer was a polarizing Gose that used lactic acid to create a tart, salty taste. They even tried cherry chocolate flavors before with a bock, though a stout seems a more appropriate home. Those looking for an unusually sweet addition to their wintertime beer selection can do so beginning on Monday, October 26.
