I took one look at the Nike Air Max 95 ‘Comet Red’ and the image above had me rapping this classic set of bars from Andre 3000’s feature on John Legend’s Green Light:

This shoe and its name shouldn’t have sent me on such a tangent, simply fueled by the word comet. But it did and given my affinity for the color red, it made this one a little more memorable. Apparently, others have also drawn a connection because this one is still going for a price close to retail. Let’s talk sneakers.

Why Does the Air Max 95 ‘Comet Red’ Stand Out?

This is a Big Bubble version, restoring the enlarged visible Air unit at the heel, and it was part of the Air Max 95’s 30th-anniversary run. The colorway previously returned in 2003 and again around 2010.

The upper fades across the layered side panels from the white midsole toward a darker top, with Comet Red on the eyelets, branding and Air units. The spine-inspired midsole and graduated panels follow Sergio Lozano’s original design.

Should You Buy the Air Max 95 ‘Comet Red’?

The Air Max 95 design had to grow on me. But I’ve found with the right color combination, it can be one of the best Air Max silhouettes.

Comfort was never an issue as it rarely is with any of the Air Max. Also, for my tastes, white-and-red is one of the most tried-and-true color combinations.
