The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth Runtime Revealed Alongside a New Image of Brad Pitt Back in Action

With a little bit more than a month to go until The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth releases in theaters, it’s time for the film’s promotional campaign to shift into overdrive. Today, Empire revealed a new image from the upcoming period drama, as well as the feature’s official runtime, which clocks in at 140 minutes.

A New Chapter in 1977 Los Angeles

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth finds David Fincher helming a sequel-of-sorts to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Brad Pitt reprising his role as the smooth-as-silk stuntman, Cliff Booth. The new film boasts a script by Tarantino, who’s pleased to welcome Fincher to the fold for this exploration of Booth’s exploits.

“The Fairytale is Over”: Official Synopsis and Cast Details

“Murder, blackmail, theft, extortion — just another summer in Hollywood,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “It’s 1977, eight years since Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) encountered the Manson family in Quentin Tarantino’s parallel history of 1969, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. In The Further Adventures of Cliff Booth, directed by David Fincher from a new script by Tarantino, the fairytale is over. Los Angeles no longer needs a hippie-slaying stuntman the way it did. But Hollywood will always have problems, problems that can only be solved by someone with Cliff’s unique (occasionally extralegal) abilities. When he’s not earning his keep bartending or as a projectionist, Cliff Booth is a fixer — solving situations for Hollywood’s great and, sometimes, not so good.

He’s curious when he gets a call from talent agent Karen Crosby (Elizabeth Debicki), on behalf of her client, TV megastar Charlie Peters (Scott Caan) — a man known for doing his own stunts. And he’s further entertained and intrigued when he meets other characters in Charlie’s world, from his knowing wife Toni (Carla Gugino) to pro football champion turned screen star Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Then there are the Verdusco brothers (Matt Groove and JB Tadena), mysterious gangsters causing mayhem across the city. What was once a fairytale is now a crime story — a cocktail of violence, ambition, and desire that could only happen in LA.”

Not a Hangout Movie: Quentin Tarantino on the Film’s Crime-Thriller Tone

While speaking with Empire, Tarantino said people should expect Cliff Booth to feel different than OUATIH, saying, “I don’t think of it as a hangout movie at all,” says Tarantino of Cliff Booth. “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was a hangout movie, but you know you’re going to Cielo Drive (site of the Manson murders). It has this force, thus I didn’t need a lot of plot. This script was very different.”

“To me, it had the flavour of an Elmore Leonard paperback: a crime-story paperback feel,” Tarantino teased.

While Fincher had at least two movies’ worth of material, thanks to Tarantino’s extensive script (230 pages), the duo restricted themselves to one picture, not wanting the reunion with Booth to overstay its welcome. Fincher says he removed 60 pages from the script, so it’s good to know we’re getting a Tarantino-written novel to go along with the movie.
