Netflix Quietly Renews ‘The Hunting Wives’ for Season 3

Are the wives of Maple Brook hunting for power and status or just shooting skeet? The raunchy mystery has more story to tell. Fans of The Hunting Wives can breathe easy because Season 3 of the hit Netflix show has quietly been renewed.

Ahead of the Season 2 premiere on November 26, Netflix announced that a Season 3 of The Hunting Wives was in the works.

The Hunting Wives, which was initially developed for Starz before being picked up by Netflix, has been very successful on the streaming service. The show, which was first available only in the  U.S., spent five weeks in the Top Ten. Since then, the distribution status has changed, and other countries can watch and enjoy it, helping it reach No. 1 in 10 countries.

The drama stars Brittany Snow and Malin Åkerman. The series is based on the bestselling novel by May Cobb and created by Rebecca Cutter.

Cutter told Tudum, “I’m so stoked to be heading back to Maple Brook, and I promise that once you’ve finished Season 2, you’ll be desperate to see what happens next.” She added, “Buckle up, because Season 3 will be even more scandalous and twisted.”

The showrunner also said that the stakes are “real, really high.”

The show stars Snow as Sophie, a transplant from the East Coast who moves to Texas and falls in love with Margo, played by Åkerman. Margo is the wife of Jed Banks, who Dermot Mulroney plays. Recently, it was announced that Mulroney would be leaving Chicago Fire. It is unclear if The Hunting Wives factored into this decision.

The second season, which is set to premiere next month, will pick up with Sophie and Margo on the outs after the events of Season 1. The logline teases, “Soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games, the question arises: Are they the hunters or the hunted?”

At the end of Season 1, it was revealed that Margo had used Sophie’s gun to kill a local teen girl. Sophie killed Margo’s brother. Snow explained her character arc in Season 1, saying, “You see the unraveling of a woman who was very caged for a couple of years of her life, tried to be the perfect mother, perfect wife, and was not being true to herself.”

Åkerman told Tudum, “Coming back to her in Season 2, it was actually a lot easier because we had a whole season to figure out who these characters were, move through their backstory, and figure out how they tick.”

Season 1 of The Hunting Wives is available on Netflix, and Season 2 comes out on November 26.
