Most of the Doernbecher designs are far out. It’s part of the charm and the concept that tugs at the heartstrings with these charitable collaborations. That said, the Air Jordan 8 ‘Doernbecher’ is one of the most memorable designs in the collection. Let’s talk sneakers.

Caden Lampert was 10 when he designed the sneaker while recovering from Guillain-Barré syndrome. The personal touches are everywhere: his No. 14 on the straps, a boom box inside one tongue, a flaming basketball on the sole and the names of his brothers, Blake and Ryland, on the straps.

Lampert’s design is everything the Doernbecher project was designed to be. It’s bold, carefree and packed with the youthful exuberance that Jordan Brand and supporters want to preserve in the spirits of the young people who design these sneakers.

The resale market is thin. StockX logged only three sales over the last three months, so its roughly $1,200 average is a small sample, not a price for every size. Older pairs need a close look at the straps, Velcro and midsole.
