Evotrex-PG5 Is Almost Here: The First RV Trailer Capable of Generating Its Own Power

Set your alarm clocks and mark your calendars because we’re on step closer to seeing the first-ever production-intent unit of the trailer described as the first-ever RV trailer capable of generating its own power. Evotrex-PG5, the trailer in question, is en route to its big public debut.

The name Evotrex will probably ring familiar to the RV enthusiasts. They’re one of the handful of RV startups making headlines over the past couple of years and one of the fewer to show real promise in terms of delivering the product they’re promising. As of last week, they’re even more worthy of attention.

That’s when Evotrex announced the digital debut of the Evotrex-PG5 travel trailer, the production-intent version, for January 5, 2027, followed by the physical debut of the same product a few days later, at the 2027 edition of CES, taking place in Las Vegas.

This double debut confirms that PG5, described by trade outlets as a true pioneer in the premium towable sector, is on track for the first customer deliveries for mid 2027. Limited production will kick off later next year, with the first units going out to the first reservation holders.

“Something capable is approaching”

This is how Evotrex is teasing the upcoming debut. It won’t be the first time media and potential customers are laying eyes on the PG5, since it made its debut in prototype form at this year’s CES, but it will be the first time they’re seeing the production-intent version of it. Unlike the prototype, this one will be closer to the units that will be heading out to customers next summer.

It will also integrate new features and upgrades based on feedback from the RV community, as Alex Xiao, founder and CEO of Evotrex, points out.

“January 5 will mark an important step forward for Evotrex,” he says in a statement. “We have spent this development phase listening to our community, testing in real-world conditions and refining the details that matter most.”

He doesn’t get into specifics, most likely because the specifics will be revealed in January. The full list of specs is also expected to be revealed then, so we’ll know more about construction method and materials, weights, and exact dimensions for both the trailer and the holding tanks.

With the announcement regarding the upcoming debut comes the launch of the Evotrex Rewards program, which will see referrals rewarded with points that can be used for purchase in the Evotrex online store or for the acquisition of a new PG5 trailer.

So, what’s the fuss with this travel trailer?

These technicalities aside, one thing that won’t change about the PG5 between prototype stage and production-intent version is the thing that makes it so special: the fact that it’s capable of generating its own power. This 28-foot (8.5-meter) trailer is fully electric, but with a different approach to self-sufficiency than the majority of fully electric options available right now or in the making.

It comes with 1.5kW of solar on the roof and a massive 43kWh lithium battery, but it doesn’t rely solely on energy from the sun for extended off-grid stays. That same integrated system features a 75kW automotive-grade generator with its own fuel tank that will charge the battery on the go or when there’s limited exposure.

The system comes with V2V DC fast charging so you will be able to charge the towing vehicle from the battery or even to use it as a backup power source for the home, in case of a power shortage.

The PG5 features smart power management, an Off-Grid Calculator for real-time estimates based on available resources, and an onboard electric motor that will allow parking and remote maneuvering on the app or by remote. A TowSync function will provide towing assistance on the road, reducing the load on the towing vehicle.

Other figures revealed earlier this year with the prototype but not confirmed by Evotrex is a gross weight of about 9,900 lbs (4,490 kg) and 43 square feet (4 square meters) for the drop-down patio that will also function as a ramp, allowing you to load smaller toys and gear into the space of the dinette.

The trailer rides on a tandem axle with 33-inch offroad tires and features a zero-wood construction and interior. Metal, fiberglass, and composites will be used heavily for both, based on how the first functional prototype looked.

In terms of layout, the PG5 has the main bedroom at the front, the lounge slash dining space slash garage at the rear, and the kitchen and bathroom in the middle. This is a four-person RV that will work wonderfully as a complete option for a couple’s RV, with premium appliances, maximum comfort, and surprisingly sophisticated styling.

Evotrex will offer several trims for the same model, the PG5, with prices starting at $119,990 for the most basic one and $159,990 for the Premium configuration, which was previously called Atlas.

The Atlas prototype is shown in the second video below.
