1997 Harrison Ford Thriller ‘Air Force One’ Comes to Netflix This Week

Harrison Ford will always be remembered for his role as Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise and starring as everyone’s favorite adventurous archaeologist, Indiana Jones. The veteran actor has accrued plenty of other notable roles even without those two iconic turns, using his understated charm to play a President of the United States in the popular action thrill Air Force One.

Air Force One follows President James Marshall as he returns home from Russia following a diplomatic mission in the wake of a dictator’s capture. Terrorists, led by Gary Oldman, sneak onto the plane and hijack it while holding the President’s wife and daughter hostage. The Preisdent is assumed to have fled in an escape pod, but in reality, Vietnam veteran Marshall is determined to take matter into his own hands.

The movie was a huge commercial success, earning $312 million against an $85 million budget, making it the fifth-highest grossing film of 1997 and one of the most popular action movies of the 90s. It was a decent hit with the critics as well, with a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as being dubbed an “instant American classic” by Collider for its silly yet earnest action and thrills.

Air Force One is joining the Netflix catalog on November 1 after some time off of all major streaming networks. Currently, the movie is only available to watch through a cable subscription, renting online, or on the Roku Channel. Starting this coming Sunday, the Harrison Ford classic will be joined by other classics like Sylvester Stallone’s climbing thriller Cliffhanger and Brad Pitt’s World War II movie Fury. Anyone craving an action-packed taste of a noble president can do so in one week’s time.
