’90s Rock Band Officially No. 1 on the Charts 30 Years After Forming

A heavy new rock release is making lots of noise, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon. The song has climbed to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hard Rock chart in the United States, giving fans another reason to turn up the volume. With a sound that balances melodic moments with plenty of aggression, it’s the kind of track that doesn’t have to choose between emotional weight and a hard-hitting guitar riff.

Released on October 14, 2026, the single brings together familiar elements of hard rock while exploring some pretty personal territory. Its lyrics touch on suffering, self-awareness, memories, loss and the difficulty of escaping the past. It’s an emotional subject, but the music gives it plenty of muscle. And for listeners who appreciate a heavier sound with something meaningful behind it, there’s a lot to dig into.

Staind Takes the No. 1 spot with ‘Ghosts’

The song making that chart impression is “Ghosts,” the latest heavy single from Staind. Released through Alchemy Recordings/BMG, the track marks a new chapter for the American rock band and serves as the lead single from its anticipated ninth studio album, The Space Between The Darkness and The Light.”

Co-written and produced with Erik Ron, whose credits include work with metalcore band Bad Omens, “Ghosts” has a sound that gives the band room to lean into both its melodic and heavier sides. Guitarist Mike Mushok, who I’ve interviewed before, sets things in motion with a low-tuned intro riff, complete with the harmonic details that help give the track its edge.

Frontman Aaron Lewis brings lots of intensity to the performance, shifting between melodic vocals and aggressive screams. Those changes give the song a dynamic feel without taking away from its emotional center.

Staind first formed in November of 1995, so this honor comes 30 years after first jamming out.

A Familiar Emotional Side with a Heavier Sound

Lyrically, “Ghosts” explores some of the difficult themes Staind has returned to throughout its career. The song deals with personal struggles, painful memories and the challenge of coming to terms with the past. There’s also a strong sense of self-awareness running through it, including the recognition that some of our own choices can contribute to the situations we find ourselves in.

The track’s combination of vulnerable lyrics, heavy guitars and Lewis’ changing vocal delivery makes for a compelling return. Its No. 1 position on Billboard’s Hard Rock chart shows that listeners are connecting with the new release.

With “Ghosts” leading the way, attention now turns to The Space Between The Darkness And The Light. The upcoming record will be Staind’s ninth studio album, and this first single offers a heavy introduction to what’s ahead.
