Winless Miami Dolphins Also Hold Truly Embarrassing Stat Through 5 Games

The Miami Dolphins became one of only two NFL teams left without a win this season after the Tennessee Titans finally found glory in Week 6, landing on the winning side thanks to a 20-point fourth quarter in a stunning 26-20 victory over the reeling Colts.

Granted, Week 6 was the Dolphins’ BYE week, so they did not have a chance to erase that donut from the win column like the Titans did.

But it really doesn’t change the severe sadness of the fact that, through five games, the Dolphins have yet to hold a lead in any game at any point thus far, a jarring stat that understandably sits dead last in the league.

Every NFL Team Has Had a Lead This Season Except the Dolphins, and the Gap Is Comical

Even those struggling Titans are officially on the board for holding a lead at a not-so-great 23 minutes and 25 seconds, good for 31st in the league and comfortably ahead of Miami’s stunning, and quite embarrassing mark of zero minutes and zero seconds.

To make matters even worse for Miami and its first-year head coach Jeff Hafley, the fellow winless 0-6 Los Angeles Chargers have at least shown some fight throughout a truly dreadful start of their own.

Here’s a look at the bottom five for most time with a lead this season through Week 6, courtesy of @NFL_Researcher:

  • 28th – Cleveland Browns – 1 hour, 12 minutes, 56 seconds
  • 29th – New Orleans Saints – 56 minutes, 48 seconds
  • 30th – Los Angeles Chargers – 53 minutes, 53 seconds
  • 31st – Tennessee Titans – 23 minutes, 25 seconds
  • 32nd – Miami Dolphins – 0 minutes, 0 seconds

To put all of those bleak numbers in proper perspective, the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens have combined to lead games for a total of 7 hours, 46 minutes, and 21 seconds.

However, there is some possible good news here for the Dolphins and its fans in that Miami’s Week 7 matchup comes against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

Yes, the Jets are 2-4 and have displayed some toughness in close losses to the Packers, Lions and Bears, with the team’s only real dud of the season coming in a 23-6 loss to the Giants.

But, they’re still the Jets.

And that means the Dolphins have a ripe opportunity on Sunday afternoon to break this troubling “0:00:00” statistic, one that will only garner an increasing amount of point-and-laugh attention at Miami’s expense the longer it remains the same.

With all of that being said, hats off to Dolphins starting quarterback Malik Willis for maintaining a positive outlook despite such a rough start to the season.
