After months of speculation, Jack Lowden has been named one of the four favorites to take on the role of James Bond. Lowden, along with Callum Turner, Josh O’Connor, and an unnamed fourth actor, was named in an exclusive report from Deadline that said the stars were set to partake in screen tests for 007, as part of Amazon MGM’s shortlist for an untitled upcoming Bond film.
Even without clinching the role, Lowden is no stranger to the spotlight, as the Scottish actor has a main role in one of the most acclaimed TV shows in the past few years, along with several other big-name projects to his name.

Jack Lowden has portrayed MI5 agent River Cartwright in the Apple TV series Slow Horses, which has run for six seasons since its launch in 2022 and has been renewed for a seventh and eighth season.
Lowden, who appears alongside Gary Oldman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Hugo Weaving, and Olivia Cooke, has been nominated twice for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Slow Horses is just one of several acclaimed shows the Scot has starred in, and he has also worked on The Long Song, Small Axe, Wolf Hall, and Amazon’s mega-budget The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. In another star-making role, Lowden is set to play Fitzwilliam Darcy in Netflix’s upcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation, set to premiere this December.
In film, Lowden has acted in major works, including the wrestling movie Fighting with My Family, the gangster historical film Capone, and the historical drama Mary Queen of Scots. Most prominently, in an early role for the rising star, Lowden played Collins in Christopher Nolan’s 2017 WWII epic Dunkirk, which was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Nolan.

While working on Mary Queen of Scots, Lowden began a relationship with the film’s leading star, four-time Academy Award-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan, best known for her roles in Atonement (2007), Lady Bird (2017), and Little Women (2019). Lowden portrayed Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, the second husband of Mary, Queen of Scots.
The couple married in 2024 in Edinburgh and later welcomed a baby the following year. Recently, the Irish-American actress was asked about her husband’s rumored upcoming role, and her response was a sweet insight into their non-celebrity home life.
“[That’s] its own thing,” Ronan said in an interview for The Associated Press. “We’re kind of getting on with our life, to be honest. We have plenty of other things to be dealing with. So, yeah, it’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house, to be honest. The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made — we’re most focused on that.”
